smanjo’s law

I’ve been in and out of the email software space for about 15 years now. I’ve noticed a trend, which I’m turning into a law (in the spirit of Godwin’s Law ):

As an email client approaches its demise, its interface increasingly copies Outlook.

I’ll leave it as a reader exercise to find the real-world examples of this law in application, but rest assured, multiple do exist. Now, the reason for this phenomena is up for debate. Quite possibly the result (coping Outlook’s interface) could be the cause (demise), but regardless, converging an email client’s interface to resemble Outlook is never a good thing.
